Prayer to Release Holy Souls From Purgatory

Our Lord told Saint Gertrude the Great that the prayer here would release 1,000 souls from Purgatory each time it is said. The prayer was extended to include living sinners which would alleviate the indebtedness accrued by them during their lives.

Eternal Father, I offer Thee the Most Precious Blood of Thy Divine Son, Jesus, in union with the Masses said throughout the world today, for all the Holy Souls in Purgatory, for sinners everywhere, for sinners in the Universal Church, those in my own home and within my family. Amen.

Saint Gertrude the Great was born in Germany in 1263 and died in 1334. She was a Benedictine nun who meditated on the Passion of Christ, which many times brought floods of tears to her eyes. She did many penances, and Our Lord appeared to her many times. Her feast day is today, November 16.

Divine Mercy Day Is Almost Here

How to prepare and celebrate the Feast of Divine Mercy.

Saint Faustina wrote in her diary on Good Friday 1937:

Jesus is commanding me to make a novena before the Feast of Mercy, and today I am to begin it for the conversion of the whole world and for the recognition of The Divine Mercy...so that every soul will praise My goodness. I desire trust from My creatures. Encourage souls to place great trust in My fathomless mercy. Let the weak, sinful soul have no fear to approach Me, for even if it had more sins than there are grains of sand in the world, all would be drowned in the unmeasurable depths of My mercy.  (Diary entry 1059)

To observe this wonderful feast on Sunday, April 28, and receive holy grace and full forgiveness, do the following:
    • Ask Jesus to help you place all your trust in the Divine Mercy of His Most Sacred Heart.
    • Start a Novena to the Divine Mercy, using the Chaplet, on Good Friday in preparation for the feast.
    • Receive the Sacrament of Reconciliation and Penance on Sunday, April 28, or seven days before or after, with the desire never to sin again. Be contrite and humble as you pray in front of the tabernacle.
    • Receive Holy Communion on Sunday, April 28.
    • Venerate the image of Divine Mercy.
    • Practice works of selfless love and mercy, by helping others and offering prayers to save souls.

My daughter, look into My Merciful Heart and reflect its compassion in your own heart and in your deeds, so that you who proclaim My mercy to the world, may yourself be aflame with it. (Diary entry 1688)

Have Faith, No Matter the Cross

When I steeped myself in prayer, I was transported in spirit to the chapel, where I saw the Lord Jesus, exposed in the monstrance. In place of the monstrance, I saw the glorious face of the Lord, and He said to me, What you see in reality, these souls see through faith. Oh, how pleasing to Me is their great faith! You see, although there appears to be no trace of life in Me, in reality it is present in its fullness in each and every Host. But for Me to be able to act upon a soul, the soul must have faith. O how pleasing to Me is living faith! (Diary entry 1420)

Our Lord told St. Gertrude the Great, whose feast day is Nov. 16, that the following prayer would release 1,000 souls from purgatory each time it is said. The prayer was extended to include living sinners which would alleviate the indebtedness accrued to them during their lives.

Eternal Father, I offer You the Most Precious Blood of Your Divine Son, Jesus, in union with the Masses said throughout the world today, for all the holy souls in purgatory, for sinners everywhere, for sinners in the Universal Church, those in my own home and within my family. Amen.

Pray for the Desire to Save Souls

    Conference on Mercy.

My daughter, know that My Heart is mercy itself. From this sea of mercy, graces flow out upon the whole world. No soul that has approached Me has ever gone away unconsoled. All misery gets buried in the depths of My mercy, and every saving and sanctifying grace flows from this fountain. My daughter, I desire that your heart be an abiding place of My mercy. I desire that this mercy flow out upon the whole world through your heart. Let no one who approaches you go away without that trust in My mercy which I so ardently desire for souls.

Pray as much as you can for the dying. By your entreaties, obtain for them trust in My mercy, because they have most need of trust, and have it the least. Be assured that the grace of eternal salvation for certain souls in their final moment depends on your prayer. You know the whole abyss of My mercy, so draw upon it for yourself and especially for poor sinners. Sooner would heaven and earth turn into nothingness than would My mercy not embrace a trusting soul. (Diary entry 1777)

    Feast of Divine Mercy:
    How to Prepare Our Hearts

    Jesus said to Saint Faustina,

My daughter, do you think you have written enough about My mercy? What you have written is but a drop compared to the ocean. I am Love and Mercy itself. There is no misery that could be a match for My mercy, neither will misery exhaust it, because as it is being granted-it increases. The soul that trusts in My mercy is most fortunate, because I myself take care of it. (Diary entry 1273)

Jesus loves us infinitely, without any reservation. Do we return His love? Do we spend time in prayer, conversing with Him? Do we share with others the gifts that He has given us? Are we patient, kind and forgiving?

His Divine Heart is open for you to obtain great grace. Just ask Our Lord.

He wants us to share in His Divinity. Don't wait any longer to accept the Lord's love. He sees you, your faults, your struggles, your love, your goodness. He knows you and loves you.

Jesus asked Saint Faustina to make His great Mercy known and desired.

To observe this wonderful feast on the second Sunday of Easter, April 15, and receive holy grace and forgiveness:
      • Firmly trust in the Divine Mercy of Jesus.
      • Start a Novena to the Divine Mercy, using the Chaplet, and pray it as often as possible. Start on Good Friday in preparation for the feast.
      • Receive the Sacrament of Reconciliation and Penance. Go to Jesus with a humble and contrite heart, repent of all your sins on the feast day, otherwise seven days before or after the feast, as approved by the Church.
      • Receive Holy Communion on the day of the feast.
      • Venerate the image of Divine Mercy.
      • Practice works of selfless love and mercy, by helping others and offering prayers to save souls.
      * * *

My daughter, look into My Merciful Heart and reflect its compassion in your own heart and in your deeds, so that you who proclaim My mercy to the world, may yourself be aflame with it. (Diary entry 1688)

      A Heart Drawn to God

From Saint Faustina's diary, a beautiful meditation on the closeness of God to us in the Holy Eucharist.

My heart is drawn there where my God is hidden,
Where He dwells with us day and night,
      Clothed in the White Host;
He governs the whole world, He communes with souls.

My heart is drawn there where my God is hiding,
      Where His love is immolated.
      But my heart senses that the living water is here;
It is my living God, though a veil hides Him.

      Prayer for Souls

From the beautiful Pieta Prayer Book

There are more souls released from purgatory during the Consecration of the Mass than at any time.  Christmas is the day of the year when most souls are delivered; then feast days of Our Lord, Our Lady and great saints.

Souls receive much grace from prayers offered for them on their birthdays, day of baptism, anniversary of death.

Our Lady asked that we pray very much for the poor souls; that we pray:

      5 I believe in God . . .
      1 Hail Holy Queen . . .
      1 Our Father . . .
      1 Hail Mary . . .
      1 Glory be to the Father . . .
1 Requiem (Eternal rest grant unto them O Lord and let perpetual light shine upon them and may they rest in peace.  Amen.)

      Prayer for Mercy
      On the Souls in Purgatory

My Jesus, by the sorrows Thou didst suffer in Thine agony in the Garden, in Thy scourging and crowning with thorns, in the way to Calvary, in Thy crucifixion and death, have mercy on the souls in purgatory, and especially on those that are most forsaken; do Thou deliver them from the dire torments they endure; call them and admit them to Thy most sweet embrace in paradise. Amen.

Our Father, Hail Mary, Eternal Rest prayer.
